Indonesia lifts its Grok ban as US groups seek a federal one

Indonesia conditionally lifted its ban on xAI’s Grok on 1 February 2026 after X gave written assurances on safety. The next day a coalition including Public Citizen and the Consumer Federation of America asked the US government to suspend Grok’s use in federal agencies.

Why it mattered xAI held a General Services Administration agreement and a Defense Department contract worth up to $200 million at the time, which tied a consumer safety failure to federal procurement.
