OpenAI launches GPT-6 Astra

On 3 September 2026 OpenAI released GPT-6 Astra, presented as the company’s most capable model to date, with advanced computer use, coding, cybersecurity and science abilities.

Why it mattered It opened the GPT-6 generation: within weeks OpenAI had added the cheaper Sol and Luna tiers, and rivals answered with their own efficiency releases.
