OpenAI adds cheaper GPT-6 Sol and Luna tiers

On 22 September 2026 OpenAI released GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, mid and budget tiers of the GPT-6 family priced at half the GPT-5.6 promotional rates, aimed at coding and high-volume work.

Why it mattered The pricing reset, Sol at $2/$10 and Luna at $0.10/$0.50 per million tokens, forced every rival into the cost-per-task conversation.
