    On 4 October 2026 President Trump announced a Super Intelligence Force in a Truth Social post, tasking it with keeping America first in super intelligence and giving it 120 days to report on AI risks and opportunities. Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton leads it.

  2. White House signs voluntary super-intelligence accord with AI firms

    Trump and six AI executives signed the voluntary White House Accord on Super Intelligence, which Trump called morally binding. It commits signatories to internal capability controls, an empowered safety team, an independent external auditor and a board committee.

  3. Bill Gates calls for legally required AI safeguards

    On 27 September 2026 Bill Gates told NBC’s Meet the Press that AI safeguards must be legally required, with law enforcement and politicians in the work and the rules mandatory. He rejected self-regulation and President Trump’s dismissal of fears of AI catastrophe as a hoax.

    On 27 February 2026, the Pentagon announced plans to designate Anthropic a supply-chain risk after a dispute over Claude’s military uses. Anthropic said it had not received formal notice and would challenge any designation in court.

    President Trump rescinded Executive Order 14110, Biden’s 2023 order on safe and trustworthy AI, on 20 January 2025. On 23 January he signed Executive Order 14179, directing advisers to produce an action plan on American AI leadership within 180 days.

  7. Trump signs an executive order on federal use of AI

    President Donald Trump signed Executive Order 13960, on trustworthy artificial intelligence in the federal government, on 3 December 2020. It set nine principles for agencies’ non-defense use of AI and told them to inventory their AI use cases.
