  1. Nvidia forecasts 70% growth as Amazon orders 2 million chips

    Nvidia reported quarterly results on 26 August 2026. Chief executive Jensen Huang forecast 70% revenue growth for fiscal 2028, above analyst estimates, and supply commitments rose to $279 billion from $119 billion. Amazon Web Services said it would buy 2 million Nvidia GPUs.

  2. Amazon cuts 14,000 corporate jobs and cites AI efficiency

    Amazon announced about 14,000 corporate job cuts on 28 October 2025. Andy Jassy said generative AI meant the company would need fewer people for some jobs and more for others. Challenger, Gray & Christmas attributed almost 55,000 American layoffs to AI across 2025.

  3. Amazon doubles its Anthropic investment to $8 billion

    Amazon said on 22 November 2024 that it would invest a further $4 billion in Anthropic, taking its total commitment to $8 billion while remaining a minority investor. The deal named AWS Trainium as Anthropic’s main training chip and expanded joint work on that chip.

  4. IBM, Amazon and Microsoft step back from police face recognition

    IBM said on 8 June 2020 that it would stop selling facial recognition. Amazon announced a one-year moratorium on police use of Rekognition on 10 June, and Microsoft said on 11 June it would not sell the technology to US police until a national law governed it.

  5. Amazon Rekognition falsely matches 28 members of Congress

    The ACLU of Northern California ran photographs of every member of the US House and Senate against a database of 25,000 public mugshots against Amazon’s Rekognition, and reported 28 false matches on 26 July 2018. Members of color were 39% of the errors and 20% of Congress.

  6. Amazon opens a cashier-less Go store to its employees

    Amazon opened Amazon Go, a convenience store of about 1,800 square feet in Seattle, on 5 December 2016. Cameras, sensor fusion and deep learning tracked what shoppers took from the shelves and billed them through an app. Only Amazon employees could shop there.

  7. Five companies found the Partnership on AI

    Amazon, Facebook, IBM, Microsoft and Google’s DeepMind announced the Partnership on Artificial Intelligence to Benefit People and Society, a non-profit for best practice and public understanding, open to academic and civil-society members. Apple joined in January 2017.
