OpenAI expands ChatGPT Ads to seven Asian markets
OpenAI announced on 23 September 2026 that ChatGPT Ads would roll out in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Taiwan, taking the product past 60 countries. Ads appear only for users on the Free and Go plans.
Why it mattered The expansion extends OpenAI’s advertising business, which the company said had reached a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate, across Southeast Asia and Taiwan, and opens self-serve buying to smaller regional advertisers.
OpenAI announced the rollout in a newsroom post dated 23 September 2026, framing it as a continuation of its Asia Pacific launches in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and India. Advertisers in the seven new markets can buy through OpenAI’s Ads Solutions team, agency partners including dentsu, Havas Media, Omnicom Media, Publicis Groupe, and WPP, or through self-service Ads Manager.
As in existing markets, ads are labeled and kept separate from ChatGPT’s answers, which OpenAI says advertising does not influence. Users on the Plus, Pro, and Enterprise plans do not see ads.
